1. You’re too old to change careers.
This is the most common reason people give as to why they can’t make the change they want to make in their careers. The fact is that you’ll never know unless you try. And if you keep making excuses and don’t do anything about it, you’ll continue to stay in your current job and pass up opportunities that can enhance your life.
2. You’ll have to take a major pay cut.
There are some situations in which you may have to take a pay cut to pursue a new career path. In many instances, you can make more money after you start your new career than you would in your old one. For example, if you used to be a schoolteacher and now decide to become a real estate agent, you could make more money than you did as a teacher if you make smart decisions and manage your business well.
3. It’s too late in your career to begin again.
When many people think of ‘starting over’ in their careers, they automatically assume they’re too old to do it. But it’s never too late to make a mid-career change and start on a new path in life. Many people who start new careers at older ages make more money and enjoy themselves more than before.
4. Your friends and family members will think you’re crazy.
This is a big obstacle for many people to overcome when they decide to change careers later in life. Family and friends often influence a person’s life decisions and can often discourage people from pursuing their dreams by telling them that they’re making the wrong choice or that they won’t succeed if they try. But the truth is that you should never listen to other people when making your own decisions. If you feel that a change is necessary for your life to be happier and more fulfilled, you shouldn’t let the opinions of others influence you too much.
5. You’ll have to start at the bottom and work your way up the ladder.
Sure, it can take time to build a successful career in your chosen field. But if you’re willing to put in the work necessary to succeed, you should be able to move up the career ladder reasonably quickly.
There’s nothing wrong or shameful about starting over in a new field. It can be rewarding to build your success in a new career rather than staying at a job you no longer enjoy. If you work hard and show determination, the sky’s the limit as you forge a new career path.
